We target opportunities that take anywhere from 2 to 40 hours (total) and that last no more than 3 months.
You complete the project on your own time, with regular check-ins with our coordinator.
The situation: We work with a number of nonprofits in Athens that provide language classes and more to refugees. We’re in the process of onboarding them to a new, intuitive, and free attendance system, but its reporting structure leaves something to be desired.
The task: Create an attendance dashboard in a Google Sheets. Each month, folks at the nonprofit will export their attendance data into your dashboard to see summary statistics, trends, and more. This information is valuable in planning class schedules, demonstrating impact to donors, and organizational strategy.
Length of project: 3 months
The situation: We work with a number of nonprofits in Athens that provide language classes and more to refugees. We’re in the process of onboarding them to a new, intuitive, and free attendance system. In order for them to sustainably use this tool in the future, we’d like to provide training materials that they can pass on to their team.
The task: Create a deck that clearly explains how to use this new attendance tool for users of limited computer literacy backgrounds.
Time Commitment: ~10 hours
The situation: An established volunteer-based nonprofit in Athens provides art workships and housing for high-risk refugee families. The founder hosts events worldwide to raise awareness and funds for refugee artists, and is in need of a marketing expert to help create marketing templates and harnass her online following.
The task: Create online campaigns to fundraise for each refugee family to help them pay for housing for one year, until they become self-sufficient.
Time commitment: 3 months
The situation: Social Hackers Academy provides a free bootcamp that trains refugees to be software engineers. This involves weekly homework assignments that have to be graded by volunteers.
The task: Automate the grading process. This will require an experienced software engingeer who can manage the project from start to finish. This will save staff and volunteers valuable time, allowing them to assist their students in more meaningful ways.
Time commitment: 3 months
The situation: Social Hackers Academy provides a free bootcamp that trains refugees to be software engineers. This involves weekly homework assignments that have to be graded by volunteers.
The task: Mentor students by grading assignments. Give students feedback on their code, and be available by Slack to answer questions. This is a great opportunity for any software engineer (or engineering student) who knows JavaScript.
Time Commitment: 2-5 hours a week, for 3 months (flexible)
The situation: Multiple nonprofits have out-of-date websites that need an expert's touch. For example, one is a nonprofit that sponsors young adult refugees to attend higher education in Athens.
The task: Upgrade their existing website in WordPress, then teach them how to maintain it.
Time Commitment: 20-30 hours total over a few months
The situation: A nonprofit befriends and brings food and other supplies to homeless refugees in Athens. This one-man shop needs an online presence to showcase his efforts and the needs of the local homeless population.
The task: Create a simple website and/or upgrade an existing Facebook page to highlight the plight of homeless refugees in Athens.
Time Commitment: 20 hours over a few months
